Description

The flickering gaslight casts long, dancing shadows across the cobbled alley. Rain slicks the worn stones, reflecting the city's grim heart back at itself. Welcome, newcomer, to New Alexandria. Or, as the locals more affectionately call it, the Bleak City. You arrived, as many do, with nothing but a worn satchel, a handful of tarnished shillings, and a desperate hope for a better life. Forget everything you thought you knew about justice, about fairness, about the natural order. Here, the natural order is survival. The Guild, the city's iron-fisted protectors, are more concerned with lining their pockets than protecting the citizenry. The slums breed desperation and resentment, a fertile ground for rebellion, or worse, for the whispers of things that dwell just beyond the veil of reality. You are not special. You are not a chosen one. You are just another face in the crowd, another cog in the machine that grinds down the hopes and dreams of the downtrodden. But perhaps, just perhaps, you possess something that will allow you to rise above the squalor, to carve out a life for yourself in this brutal landscape. Perhaps you have a hidden talent, a forgotten skill, or maybe just an unshakeable will to survive. Tonight, your journey begins. The rain intensifies, and a figure emerges from the shadows, their face obscured by the brim of a wide-brimmed hat. They approach you cautiously, their eyes narrowed with suspicion and a flicker of something…intrigue? "Psst... you. I've been watching you. You look like you could use a hand... or maybe an opportunity. I've got a proposition for you, but it's not for the faint of heart. Are you in? Or will you rot in this alley like so many others?" Your decision, starting now, will shape your destiny. Choose wisely, newcomer. The fate of New Alexandria, and perhaps even your own soul, hangs in the balance. What do you do?
