Description

The wind howls a mournful dirge across the skeletal branches of the Whisperwood. The year is 2147. Not a year remembered in history books, because, frankly, there aren't many left. The Great Combustion, they called it. A solar flare, unforeseen, undeniable, and utterly devastating, that fried the globe's electrical grid and cooked entire ecosystems. You are Ariadne Kepler, scavenger, mechanic, and reluctant optimist. Your home, a dilapidated salvage outpost clinging precariously to the edge of the former Nevada desert, barely scrapes by. Water is more valuable than gold, and technology is a rusty relic of a forgotten era. You subsist on salvaged scrap, the occasional irradiated rabbit, and the unwavering hope that something, somewhere, is better than this dust-choked existence. Life is predictable. Wake up, scavenge, repair, repeat. Until today. Today, the sandstorm brings something other than grit and despair. Buried beneath a dune the size of a small truck, lies a crashed transport – a pre-Combustion aerial vehicle, its metal carcass almost miraculously intact. Inside, among the debris and the skeletons picked clean by desert scavengers, you find it: a data core. Scorch marks mar its surface, but a faint hum emanates from within. This isn't just any piece of salvaged tech. This is a Black Box – a record of the past, potentially containing vital information about the cause of the Combustion, about the lost cities and the technology that once powered the world. It also whispers of a place called "Haven," a legendary sanctuary rumored to possess fertile land and a working power grid. But unlocking this Black Box won't be easy. Your outpost, the Iron Scar, is not the only settlement vying for survival in this desolate wasteland. The Rust Lords, a brutal gang of raiders, control the vital water sources. The Shadow Syndicate, whispers of scientific depravity, are rumored to be conducting experiments in the forgotten ruins of Las Vegas. And then there are the Mutants, creatures warped and twisted by the radiation, lurking in the shadows, always hungry. The Black Box is a beacon. It will draw them all to you. Can you decipher its secrets, navigate the dangers of the wasteland, and maybe, just maybe, find Haven? Your survival, and perhaps the future of humanity, depends on it. Now, Ariadne, wake up. The sandstorm is fading, and the sun is rising. It's time to salvage hope from the ashes.
