Description
The year is 2347. Humanity has spilled beyond the confines of a dying Earth, scattering across the stars like dandelion seeds in a gale. We've conquered planets, bent gravity to our will, and even danced with the edge of consciousness itself. Yet, amongst this technological marvel, something ancient and primal stirs.
You are Kai, a Salvager, a scavenger of forgotten glories and rusted nightmares. You pilot the 'Seraphina,' a battered but reliable starship that smells perpetually of ozone and regret. You're not driven by grand ambitions or heroic ideals. Just the relentless hum of the life support system and the gnawing hunger that follows empty pockets. Your territory is the Fringe, the ragged outer edge of civilized space, a graveyard of failed colonies and abandoned warships. Here, fortunes are made and lost in the blink of an eye.
But the Fringe is changing. The whispers started months ago, carried on static-laced comms and whispered in dimly lit cantinas. Tales of ships disappearing without a trace, of derelict stations awakening with malevolent intent, and of a spreading cold that chills the very void. At first, they were dismissed as space madness, the inevitable byproduct of isolation and desperation. But now… now you've seen it.
A distress beacon, emanating from a long-lost research station orbiting a dead star. The kind of find that could set you up for life. Or end it. A quick scan reveals a scrambled signal, almost unintelligible, but a single, chilling phrase cuts through the noise: "They are awake."
Drawn by the lure of riches and haunted by the growing unease, you guide the Seraphina towards the cold embrace of the dead star. You engage the cloaking device, a risky move that drains precious power, but necessary. The sensors are picking up anomalies, distortions in space-time that shouldn't be there. You grip the controls, your knuckles white. This isn't just another salvage run. Something is terribly wrong.
Prepare yourself, Kai. The darkness is coming. Your choices will determine not only your fate, but potentially the fate of the entire Fringe. And maybe, just maybe, the fate of humanity itself.
